A Little about our Inspector
I love what I Do
When I was 14 our family of six boys moved in to the historical district of Athens, Ala to a three bedroom home. We were cramped but there was a huge attic. We hired a carpenter to build a stair case to the attic and over the next few months, I built three bedrooms and a bath in the attic and they are still standing and being used today.
From then on, I was interested in every aspect of building.
While most boys and young men honed their skills on golf, fishing or cars, I took every opportunity to build. While still in High School, I was able to get a summer job building homes as a carpenter's aide, and during the school year found myself digging trees out a swamp on the weekends and transplanting them as fairway barriers at a new golf course. By the time I was in college, my summer jobs took me to a manufactured home plant where i became a lead man in the framing section, and later for a construction company.
As i entered the electronics world and the computer industry, I took every chance to build a neighbor a deck, install a new bathroom, swap out a hot water heater or re-wire a plug. I made lots of mistakes along the way and often had to re-do a lot of my work, but as my skills improved, the quality of my work improved and the quality of my tools. By the time i transferred to Atlanta, i was ready for some large projects and purchased an incomplete home in a great neighborhood and further honed my skills. Soon, i had a six bedroom, five bath home with two laundry rooms, two dens, decks, porches, patios and even a huge pool. I found that building was the most relaxing thing I could do.
When i was finally able to leave the computer industry, I turned to my investment property, passed the national home builder's tests and built a subdivision with nine houses, followed by another and many custom homes and renovations. But after a few years, I learned that while I loved the work, I didn't really enjoy the business end of building. I turned to Inspecting as a way to stay in the building trades and I love what I do. My unique background helps me not only spot issues and potential problems, I am also well versed in how to repair practically any thing that can go wrong with a home. There are few things on a home that cannot be repaired or improved and my reports often provide primers on needed repairs.
I keep my Inspection rates reasonable (offering a low cost guarantee and honoring all coupons) , make thorough inspections and write what I've been told are the most comprehensive reports available. I work all over North Alabama, because I love the area, and enjoy visiting every part of it. But, unlike most other inspectors, I charge no mileage fees. Even my Radon Inspections are well below the market value.
In addition to home inspections, i also maintain several rental homes that i own. I make myself available every day of the week for inspections, and for those of you who have difficult work schedules, I even offer inspection services on Saturdays as well as Sunday afternoons. I take a lot of pride in my work and my customers tell me they appreciate it.
And, over the years i have met many terrific tradesmen who are reliable and resonable. I share that information with my clients who often need specilized services and dont know where to turn.
Life is Good.
Remember, weather you use my services or not, before you buy a home be sure to have it inspected by a licensed professional. The state of Alabama is a BUYER BEWARE state, and home sellers are NOT REQUIRED to disclose deficiencies or problems.
